Dr. Scott has extensive training and experience working with children, adolescents, and adults experiencing a wide range of social and emotional difficulties. These difficulties include depression and mood-related disorders (e.g., bipolar disorder), anxiety, and trauma- and adjustment-related stress reactions that often occur during transitions. Dr. Scott has and continues to create and present training regarding wellness and resilience for first responders. She is also trained to assist organizations to create avenues of wellness for their employess.
Heather is the co-founder and president/executive director of Behind the Line, Inc. She works under the supervision of Dr. Samantha Scott. She helps to lead the organization that focuses on first responders and family wellness and resilience. She obtained her Bachelor of Social Work from Salisbury University, her Master of Science from Capella University, and completed her Ph.D. in Forensic Psychology at Walden University. Heather was responsible for the Critical Incident Response Team which would assist in providing debriefings for community members after a critical incident. She is certified to teach both Critical Incident Stress Management and Mental Health First Aid. She also assists with teaching the mental health unit to the cadets at the Eastern Shore Criminal Justice Academy.
Under the Supervision of Dr. Kathy Seifert at Eastern Shore Psychological Services, LLC, Heather is the Operations and Training Director and provides therapy for First Responders. She is a Certified Trauma Professional, Certified First Responder Associate, and trained to provide Cognitive Processing Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Dialectical behavior therapy.
Cpl Brown has been a police officer for thirty (30) years. During that time he was assigned to uniform patrol at the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Department from December 1989 to August 1992. In August 1992, Cpl Brown was hired by the Fruitland Police Department and was immediately assigned to the Wicomico County Narcotics Task Force where he served as an undercover narcotics investigator for a period of five (5) years.
In 2018, Cpl Brown began speaking at CIT training regarding self-care for first responders. He joins his wife Heather Brown to provide a unique and personal perspective as to how the job not only affects the officer, but also the family. In January 2019, Cpl Brown and Heather began to present a 3-day training for local first responders regarding peer support and ideas for implementation within their agencies. This training has been provided across the Eastern Shore of Maryland. They were also invited to present at the National CIT conference in August 2019.
Benji joined Behind the Lines, Inc. during the summer of 2021. He has completed AKC, Star Puppy, AKC Canine Good Citizen, AKC Community Canine, and AKC Urban Canine. Benji graduated as a Certified Therapy dog through U.S. Kennels, Inc. He looks forward to always saying hi to everyone.
